00:06Today, we'll be installing the latest cold shrink products from Burnie.
00:10Before we start, let's make sure we have the right connection or sleeve for the job.
00:14This install will be done using our CS UDO 15 to 10 J termination kit which is rated for
00:21both indoor and outdoor applications.
00:24This series is also for bear and jacketed concentric neutral power cables for the
00:30connector. We'll be using a Burnie Y A 26 A 32 hole Nema
00:35connector for the termination.
00:37We will be installing this termination on a 205 kilovolt jacketed concentric neutral conductor.
00:43What do we mean by jacketed concentric neutral conductor?
00:47If you look at the layers of the conductor, you'll see that in this case,
00:51it has an outer jacket, then individual concentric neutral insulation shield insulation
00:57conductor shield. Then finally the conductor.
01:00First, I'd like to talk about the different components of the kit.
01:04You'll have your cold shrink termination sleeve that is expanded over the plastic easy rip cord
01:09that is now recyclable. One feature on the sleeve that makes the burnie
01:13system easy to install is its integrated Mastic lining that is installed at the factory on both
01:19ends of the termination.
01:21This high performance burnie high seal Mastic makes installation easier and ensures a very
01:26high quality consistent termination.
01:29You'll have a piece of the moisture ceiling Mastic, you'll have an electrical grade tape,
01:34you'll have a solvent wipe kit, an installation guide and cutback template will also be
01:40included using your burnie installation guide. It is recommended to taking the time reading
01:45through and highlighting pertinent information for your specific installation to ensure proper
01:50cutback lengths for each layer, determine the proper lengths of cut offs for each layer of
01:56the conductor to ensure a proper install and for your Mastic that is inside the tube sit
02:01correctly at those critical locations. Please make sure you carefully go through step
02:05by step with your installation guide.
02:09Installing the sleeve mark the jacket to the predetermined measurement according to the
02:14instructions, look at the thickness of the jacket to be removed at the end of the cable,
02:19use specialized insulation removal tools to remove the jacket.
02:24Next, we'll install the Mastic.
02:27We need to apply one wrap of red sealant at the jacket cut back under the wires.
02:32Make sure you cut the Mastic fold back wires and press the wires into the
02:39ceiling, making sure that the wires are spaced apart evenly and do not cross one another.
02:44For the specific sizes. You may need to add additional Mastic to reduce
02:48transition from the conductor and insulation.
02:51This is due to the thickness of the insulation and the size of the conductor.
02:55This makes a more uniform diameter for the cold shrink to shrink down to
03:09using the electrical tape provided with the kit, apply two layers of tape directly over the
03:14constant force spring. So this will cover any sharp edges that the
03:17brain may have remove the Semicon with a specialized insulation removal tool.
03:24Consult lug installation instructions to obtain the wire strip length and cut back dimensions
03:29mark the location of the insulation, cut back accordingly.
03:32Using an electrician's knife, remove the excess insulation to the conductor.
03:37Install the connector for the burnie crimp guide, select the appropriate dye style to
03:42match the installation tool. Insert the dyes into the tool place,
03:47the connector between the installed dyes use the color stripes as a guide for crimp
03:52placement. Refer to the Burnie Master catalog for required
03:56amount of crimps depending on tool and dye selected, wipe the insulation beginning at the
04:01Semicon without touching the Semicon towards the terminal.
04:05If any excess particles are left behind tracking could take place as the connection is
04:10energized. Be sure not to touch the Semicon or any wiped
04:14areas that could be contaminated from oils or dust.
04:17This is imperative.
04:18Next, take the cold shrink sleeve and position the sleeve with the sheds or skirts towards the
04:23end of the termination.
04:25Gently pull the rip cord as the sleeve is lined up to the edge of the marker tape slightly
04:30turning the shrink tubing as it begins to shrink down.
04:34Take your time at the beginning of the shrinking process,
04:37you can overlap a little over the PV C tape and pull.
04:40So the shrunk tube sits firmly to the edge of the tape.
04:43Continue to pull the rip cord to complete the shrink.
04:46You will notice that near the termination, there may be gaps as it looks as though it will
04:51not seal after a few minutes, it will compress down and create a watertight seal.
04:56If you feel more comfortable, you can squeeze it lastly gather all neutrals and insert into
05:03desired connector for grounding that completes our installation of the CS UDO medium voltage
05:09cold shrink kits. For more information.
