00:00The weld. The contractor's choice presents the easy light
00:04remote electronic ignition system.
00:08Thermal weld's patented easy light remote is one of the latest technological advances for
00:14thermal weld exothermic products and the entire industry for over 50 years.
00:20Thermal world has been developing and inventing products and practical solutions that have
00:25become the contractor's choice worldwide.
00:28Our easy light remote is no exception before we begin.
00:32Let's make sure we have all the proper tools handy.
00:35They include the proper thermal weld mold.
00:38Our new easy light remote with weld metal and igniter sticks,
00:43handle clamps, gloves, safety glasses, a soft bristle brush,
00:49a wire brush, propane torch and flint. Igniter.
00:54The easy light remote uses four D size batteries.
00:57They can be changed by removing the caps on the end of the remote.
01:02We tested the remote for up to 400 connections with one set of batteries.
01:08The lights on the easy light remote indicate how strong the batteries are.
01:14The heat resistant cord is available in 6 ft 15 ft or 20 ft lengths.
01:20This allows you to step away from your mold while igniting the weld metal at the end of the
01:25cord is the plug. This is where the igniter stick is inserted.
01:30The igniter stick is all that is needed to set off the ignition preparation for using the
01:37easy light remote is the same as with our standard igniter system at our new thermo weld
01:43B 106 handle clamp to the mold.
01:46Its offset design is more convenient allowing a closer placement of the mold up against the
01:51side wall of the ditch. During the weld, the new handle clamp design
01:56operates the same as our old handle clamp design, but with improved clamping force,
02:01it's important that there is no dirt on or in the cable to clean the cable.
02:05You use a wire brush, making sure there's no dirt or debris on the cable where the weld will
02:10be made. Moisture in the mold can cause steam and make
02:14the connection porous.
02:15The mold needs to be heated for about 2 to 3 minutes to remove any moisture in the mold.
02:21It's only necessary to heat the mold for the first weld of the day.
02:26The mold we're using is our M 241 mold designed for horizontal cable tap to horizontal cable
02:32run with this mold. We're using our 150 E weld metal.
02:37The easy weld is our standard weld metal with igniters, position your cable wire into the
02:43mold. Assuring the cables are in firm contact to each
02:46other place the steel disk into the mold. The easiest way is to slide the disk down the
02:52side of the mold cavity into place.
02:54Carefully add the proper weld metal into the mold.
02:57This can be sometimes difficult because the container is so full at the bottom of the weld
03:02metal container, we pack our starting powder.
03:05You don't need starting powder. When using the easy light remote,
03:08we include the starting powder with our easy light weld metal.
03:12In case your easy light remote batteries are dead or the remote is damaged somehow,
03:17you can still use the flint igniter to fire your mold.
03:20Insert the silver end of the igniter strip into the end of the plug of the cord.
03:24You will hear a click, locking it into place, place the igniter strip into the top of the
03:29mold, place the cord perpendicular to the hinge. So it's out of the way of where the mold vents
03:36turn on the remote and press the igniter button.
03:40The easy light remote responds immediately. There is no lag time.
03:44We recommend that you wait approximately 15 to 20 seconds allowing the weld metal to cool
03:50slightly, remove the igniter strip and open the mold, clean the mold with a soft bristle brush.
03:56This prepares the mold in advance for your next weld, knocking the slag off the weld,
04:01not only cleans the weld, but it allows you to check the quality of the weld looking for
04:06porosity and other imperfections. This also allows you to check the strength of
04:10the weld, the result of permanent maintenance, free connection.
04:15One that will not loosen or corrode and one that is unaffected by high current surge and
04:20carries current equal to or greater than the conductor.
