00:00Bernie is proud to introduce fast tap with Lineman assist.
00:04Fast tap provides a novel solution to an age old problem for utilities.
00:09How to mechanically tap overhead distribution lines in a quick safe,
00:13reliable manner to show the benefits of fast tap.
00:17Let's evaluate one of the most common mechanical tap connectors used by utilities
00:21today. The parallel groove clamp, parallel groove
00:24clamps have been widely used by utilities for decades.
00:28They are a safe reliable solution with a proven track record but they are not without their
00:34issues. For example, while wearing bulky dielectric
00:38gloves, how does one hold a parallel groove clamp and still install the conductors?
00:43Fast tap has an answer.
00:46It has a handle. We call it the duckbill by holding the duckbill
00:50line workers now have a place to hold the connector that is out of the way of the next
00:54step at installation which is tap conductor entry with a standard parallel roof clamp.
01:01An operator unscrews the nut to open the connector and then slides the conductor in from
01:06the end by squeezing the duc bill. Fast tap simplifies this process by allowing
01:11the operator to easily install the tap conductor from the side without ever having to
01:16remove his hand from the handle.
01:19Once the conductor is in the cable groove, the operator closes the connector and lineman
01:24assist feature holds the conductor in place.
01:27Notice how the oxide inhibitor stays in the connector with a standard parallel groove clamp.
01:32There is nothing to hold the conductor in place and sometimes the conductor falls out.
01:37Now, installing a standard connector on the main line becomes even trickier with fast tap.
01:43The duc bill acts as a guide to easily snap the connector onto the main line.
01:48While the lineman assist holds on to the tap conductor.
01:52Once on the lineman assist feature now holds both conductors making it easy to tighten the
01:58knife need a cover, no problem.
02:01The fast tap cover snaps on easily over the connector and can be installed on all burnie
02:06single bolt parallel groove clamps.
02:09The cover was designed with line workers in mind, large flat surfaces make the cover easy
02:15to handle while wearing dielectric gloves. Even in cold weather.
02:20The cover can be sold with the connector or separately simply order catalog number UTC
02:26cover. The fast tap connectors come in two basic sizes.
02:30The UCT 26 RSUCT 32 RS and can accommodate wire ranges from
02:37number eight solid copper up to 3 36.4 A CS R or 400 copper or
02:44aluminum conductor.
02:46The connectors come standard with all oxides removed at the factory and coated.
02:52They also come prefilled with Petr Burnie's proprietary oxide inhibitor.
02:57Other options such as stainless steel hardware and sheer nuts are also available fast tap,
03:03making the tapping of overhead distribution lines, safe,
03:06reliable and most of all fast.
