00:00Burnie is headquartered in Manchester, New Hampshire.
00:03We have over 85 years of engineering excellence along with top notch customer and technical
00:09service. We offer high quality and competitively priced
00:13connectors, wiring accessories and insulation tooling.
00:18At Burnie, we are highly dedicated to testing and every year we invest in our mechanical
00:25electrical metallurgical and environmental capabilities to ensure our products are
00:31safe and superior to that of our competitors.
00:35We produce quality parts manufactured and tested in the United States and proven in the
00:41field at Burnie labs. We test our spices, lugs,
00:46wedge taps and various other connection products and tools.
00:51We have a complete model shop where test fixtures and prototypes of designs are machined.
00:57Every variation of material or design must pass a wide range of tests before it is sold.
01:04When testing wire or cable connections, they are assembled in our lab facilities by a
01:08trained professional. Once assembled testing can be executed,
01:13we have multiple site tensile pull machines such as the really which is capable of pulling
01:19up to 60 ft of cable at over 100,000 pounds of force.
01:24This machine is used to test in flow CTC and various other large connectors.
01:31The SEC and Baldwin are used to test various wire gauge connectors and are capable of
01:36applying 105,000 pounds of force respectively.
01:42After assembling products must go through a series of essential tests such as current
01:47cycling where temperature and resistance is measured for a specified duration short circuit
01:54where a maximum current of 12,000 amps is applied to grounding connectors secure which
02:00exposes connectors to an external force for a 30 minute duration and environmental stability
02:07including freeze testing and salt solution exposure.
02:15When the wire is tested to specification the connection passes,
02:20we also test our products to the point of failure.
02:23In order to accurately conclude how much power is needed to implement connection failure.
02:29In our state of the art metallurgy room, we are able to analyze products on a micros structural
02:35level. Metall gray is the art and science of preparing
02:38samples and interpreting micros structural changes related to specific processes.
02:45Sample preparation includes sectioning, grinding, polishing and etching.
02:51The metallurgy lab at Birdie has a number of tools for image acquisition including the 3D
02:57microscope as well as a high speed camera for capturing slow motion video to
03:04analyze velocity and acceleration of moving parts.
03:09Bernie completes these tests in a greater effort to supply essential information to our
03:14customers in order to use our connection safely because safety is our highest priority
