00:28Chapter one, Ripley wire stripping tools.
00:32Bernie's compression insulation piercing connector design requires each tap wire to be
00:37stripped ensuring full bare wire contact with a connector for optimal mechanical and electrical
00:44performance. Bernie recommends the use of Ripley wire
00:47stripping tools for safe, fast and efficient wire stripping.
00:52Ripley products include power drill collar. WS 68 snap with a 38
00:59drill attachment proper bushing depending on the connector.
01:03Tap wire size use bushing 10-27550 for 10 A WG copper
01:10tap wire stripping use bushing 10-32560 for eight A WG copper
01:16tap wire stripping.
01:18Chapter two demonstrate tap wire stripping with Ripley wire stripping tools.
01:24In this video, we will be stripping 10 A WG copper PV tap wire step one
01:31identify the proper Ripley stripping tools for the wire being stripped for all compression
01:37insulation piercing connectors. The proper Ripley drill collar is the WS 68
01:43snap. The proper bushing for 10 A WG copper tap wire
01:48is 10-27550 step two set. The required strip
01:54length to one and three eights for the Y I PC 348 CWC setting,
02:01the required strip length on the WS 68 snap drill collar is quick and easy.
02:07If the scale does not slide freely, loosen the screw on the scale slide,
02:12the scale. So the red band on the scale lines up with the
02:15appropriate strip length based on the measurement guide and tighten the screw to set
02:20the strip length. Step three A symbol bushing
02:2710-27550 into the drill collar. Ws 68 snap for 10 A
02:34WG wire.
02:35The drill collar has a quick release button that engages or disengages the bushing lock
02:40hole for installation or removal of wire stripping bushings.
02:45The bushing has a locking hole that is secured in the drill collar when the locking pin is
02:50engaged to assemble the bushing to the drill collar, insert the bushing into the collar and
02:56rotate the bushing until the locking pin in the collar engages the locking hole in the bushing.
03:02Verify the bushing is locked in the collar by slightly rotating and pulling on the bushing.
03:08Step four, attach the drill collar with bushing into the drill.
03:12Drill collar has a 3/8 drill attachment, insert the drill collar into the drill chuff and
03:18tighten the chuck to secure the drill collar for safe operation the drill collar should be
03:24tight with no wobbling in the drill chuck after tightening, insert the wire into the bushing
03:30until the wire stops.
03:32Operate the drill at a slow speed while applying gentle forward pressure to the wire in
03:37the direction of the bushing.
03:39The bushing will start to strip the wire insulation and the gentle pressure on the wire
03:44will allow the bare wire to slide into the drill collar as the insulation is removed.
03:50Once wire stops at the set strip length in the drill collar,
03:53the wire stripping is complete.
03:55Be sure that the power drill has stopped spinning completely before removing the wire as
04:00sliding the wire out of the drill collar and bushing while the collar is spinning could nick
04:06or damage the wire strands.
04:08This concludes our tap wire stripping with Ripley tools.
