00:00In our rapidly evolving world success is defined by turning challenges into
00:05opportunities. With enough foresight and ingenuity,
00:09the complex problems of today can become the achievements of tomorrow.
00:13I'm Fred Thompson from business and technology to health care and the environment.
00:19Join me as we take a closer look inside the workings of the modern global economy.
00:29I'm Fred Thompson and I'm inside business since the dawn of the industrial age.
00:36Manufacturing has been the cornerstone of American business.
00:40Join me as we explore some recent advances in the industry.
00:45As early as 600 BC, it was first recorded that rubbing amber would produce an electrical
00:51charge. Eventually. In the 17 hundreds, the positive and negative
00:56aspects of electricity were discovered and by the 19th century,
01:01we began to fully understand electrical current, how to store it,
01:05discharge it, measure it and how to create it using magnetic fields.
01:10Today. Virtually every appliance or piece of equipment
01:13which utilizes electricity is tested to safety standards. Connector.
01:17Manufacturing is a manufacturing company of both aluminum and copper electrical connectors.
01:22Our customers are large utility companies and major manufacturers of things like circuit
01:27breakers, switch gear and metering devices. All of our products are listed,
01:32listed CSA listed.
01:34We actually have a third party testing lab here in our facility to help our customers testing
01:38needs customers like square D Cutler, Hammer Siemens and GE as they develop new product come
01:45to C MC to help design their electrical connectors inside their products to make sure
01:49they're safe and reliable.
01:51When electricity leaves the power plant, it travels for hundreds of miles to reach your
01:55home or business all along the way. There are millions of feet of wires,
02:00panels, boxes, clamps and other electrical equipment that the electric current passes
02:06through each piece of aluminum or copper that touches this.
02:10Kermit has to meet industry safety standards.
02:13Eventually, as power consumption increased, fuses were exchanged for circuit breakers and
02:19the circuit breaker panels kept getting larger and upgraded as our demand for electricity grew.
02:25It's a well known fact that the infrastructure today that's known as the power grid is
02:29outdated and in vast need of some reconstruction.
02:34Therefore, it's time now as far as we're concerned to get ourselves involved in what is
02:39known in the industry as the smart grid connector.
02:42Manufacturing itself has been working with the power companies and many of the manufacturers
02:47of equipment and products that will help that cause.
02:53We've been expanding our markets. We're now involved in solar power,
02:58wind energy, geothermal in every area we can to help promote the smart grid
03:05and the green energy necessary to provide better power.
03:09Many companies are making a commitment to take an active role in a greener environment.
03:14In 2006, we met up a major wind supplier in the United States and throughout the world,
03:19our people met with their people and we developed a creative,
03:22innovative solution along our product lines to solve the issue they were having.
03:25After some field testing and certification, we now have three product lines that they're using
03:31in the wind tower installations in the United States.
03:34We're very excited as far as the wind energy segment in the United States and its
03:38possibilities, the growth in the businesses communities and the households CMC takes their
03:44commitment to heart by bringing it into their own backyard.
03:47We're doing a lot of things right now to help promote green energy and make it a part of our
03:52company culture.
03:53We're in the process of putting a wind turbine in the back of our plant to help supply some of
03:58the energy. And we're also looking at putting solar panels
04:01on our roof and we've actually gone as far as to buy some of the hybrid cars for our sales.
04:07Folks with the rising cost of electricity, many manufacturers of electrical equipment are
04:13redesigning their products to supply the green building trends of the future CMC is there to
04:18answer the call connector and its engineering staff is well regarded and renowned
04:25as the people to go to, to help develop and design new products,
04:31especially in the renewable energy area where we've already come forward with many innovative
04:37ideas. We're very excited about the fact that we're
04:40going to be a leader in this industry and we're going to help develop and bring the
04:48renewable energy sources to the nation.
04:53Thanks for joining us on this edition of Inside Business.
04:56Until next time, I'm Fred Thompson.
