00:03When holes are not an option. Hubble's stainless steel banding is the
00:06solution on poles of various shapes and materials.
00:09Hubble's stainless steel banding products allow you to attach hardware to poles of any material
00:15including concrete and metal.
00:17The main components to the Hubble banding system are the banding available in width from
00:21half inch up to one and a quarter inches. And the buckle that secures the banding buckles
00:27are available in two styles, a folded buckle and an adjustable buckle.
00:31This video will demonstrate installation using bolt styles shown.
00:36First is an installation using stainless steel banding with the folded buckle to secure a
00:41clover leaf standoff bracket.
00:43This multi-purpose bracket has banding provisions molded into the base casting and is
00:48commonly used to mount cut outs or arrests begin by measuring the circumference of the
00:53pole where the band is to be installed, cut the band to a length of 8 to 12 inches beyond the
00:59measured circumference of the pole.
01:01It is important to take into consideration what hardware will be installed as additional length
01:06may be needed. Insert one end of the band into the folded
01:10buckle and bend the band around it.
01:13Notice that the banding is first inserted through the sawtooth edge of the slot and then
01:17fed between the ears and bent down towards the underside of the buckle,
01:22wrap the band around the pole and insert the other end of the band into the buckle.
01:27The second end of the band will first be inserted between the ears and go out through
01:32the sawtooth slot in the opposite direction that the first end of the band was inserted.
01:36The bracket is placed in the desired location at this time to tighten the band on the pole.
01:42A banding installation tool is used, insert the band into the tool is shown and tighten by
01:48turning the tools handle until all slack has been taken out.
01:52Use the installation tool to bend the band over the buckle while backing off the tension.
01:56One full turn, cut the band by pulling on the handle of the installation tool,
02:02bend the excess band between the ears of the buckle and use a hammer to flatten the ears,
02:07securing the band, the standoff bracket is now secured to the pole and is ready for equipment
02:13to be installed. In this demonstration.
02:16The installer has mounted a Hubble P DB 100 optima arrester,
02:20a heavy duty distribution arrester which protects valuable equipment from over voltages
02:25caused by surges due to lightning occurrences or switching operations.
02:30If a banding installation tool is not available or if retention is anticipated at a later time.
02:36Hubble offers an adjustable banding buckle.
02:39The next demonstration illustrates the use of banding with the adjustable style buckle on a
02:44wood pole to attach a messenger suspension clamp.
02:48Since the clamp is designed to be installed on the end of a bolt,
02:51a general purpose mounting bracket will be used in place of what could be a through bolt.
02:56In typical installations as with the folded buckle measure,
03:00the pole circumference and cut the stainless steel banding to the appropriate length
03:04allowing an extra 8 to 12 inches beyond the pole circumference.
03:09Install both buckle halves on the non bent end of the band in the appropriately sized slot
03:14measure 4 to 6 inches from one end of the band and bend the band at this mark.
03:19Once installed, fold this end of the band under the buckle.
03:23It's a good idea to flatten the fold with a hammer to create a sharp band radius,
03:28place the banded assembly around the pole and install the carriage bolt through the two
03:32aluminum retainers, install the washer and nut on the carriage bolt and tighten until the
03:37assembly is secure and all slack has been taken out of the band.
03:42The nut is tightened until the desired tension in the stainless steel banding is achieved with
03:47the banding and mounting brackets secured to the pole.
03:49The messenger suspension clamp is attached and is ready to support communications cable.
