00:10Hello, I am Darren Johnston, technical specialist for Hubble power systems.
00:14Today, I'm gonna show you how to properly adjust ad style transmission switch.
00:20The D switch has been manufactured since 1953 and is Turner Electric's first product.
00:26Once the insulators and blades are mounted to the frames,
00:30each phase should be adjusted to make sure the blades line up with the jaws.
00:35This can be accomplished by adjusting the leveling screws on the bottom of the insulators
00:39and the jaws can be adjusted vertically to make alignment easier,
00:44adjust the jaws. So the blades are centered with the contacts.
00:48This can be accomplished by using the bolts on the back of the jaw to make vertical
00:52adjustments, check the blade latch to make sure that it locks properly.
00:56And the quick whips will be inside the whip keeper when the blade is fully closed.
01:01After all the phases are adjusted and installed on the pole,
01:04install the vertical operating pipe and pierce the top phase pipe lever.
01:09This lever will hold the vertical operating pipe until all pipe is installed.
01:14The remaining two levers will stay loose until adjusted.
01:17All vertical operating pipe. Couplings can be pierced after each phase has
01:22been adjusted. And the vertical operating pipe installed,
01:24we will set the reach pipe placement, open each phase individually to 30 degrees.
01:31Set the bearing levers parallel with the vertical operating pipe lever,
01:37then attach your reach pipe. This will ensure a proper open and closed
01:41position, tighten the reach pipe crevices but do not pierce at this time.
01:46The most important part of adjusting any transmission switch is properly setting the
01:49blade timing to ensure a proper closed position with the operator loose at the bottom.
01:54So the vertical operating pipe moves freely.
01:57You can close the switch manually by pulling the reach pipe,
02:00close the switch. So the top phase just touches the outside of
02:04the jaw contacts, inspect, this has been achieved and move to the middle phase.
02:09Adjust the middle phase by loosening the crevice on the pivot bearing and move the blade
02:14a half inch behind the top phase.
02:16Tighten the crevice once this has been completed, then move on to the bottom phase.
02:21On the bottom phase loosen the crevice on the pivot bearing and move the blade one inch
02:25outside the jaw. Use a marker to
02:32mark each side of the crevices and pipe levers and tighten the crevice
02:40after the blade timing has been set, tighten the operator to the vertical operating pipe and
02:45open the switch to check placement.
02:48The blades will appear staggered in the open position.
02:51Use the operator to close the switch with a fast motion to ensure proper locking of all
02:56phases. It is important to note that the D switch needs
02:59to be slammed into the closed position. If all the blades are locking properly,
03:03operate the switch a few more times to ensure proper adjustment and then pierce all reach
03:08pipe crevices and operator.
