00:06This is an introduction to the Lyle A nine bypass valve.
00:10It's patented design is used primarily for manual on off fuel line capability and to
00:15bypass service operations on the outlet side or customer side of residential meter sets.
00:21The compact design reduces greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating the need for rubber
00:26bags when servicing or changing out a residential meter.
00:30The quarter inch port also saves time and money by allowing the system to be easily purged
00:34after an outage, numerous options are available for the downstream connection including
00:39multiple swivel options and an insulated union also beneficial is the one piece steel cast
00:45body which can be welded in place, eliminating a potential future leak path.
00:50The A nine is available as a stand alone valve or as an assembled component on a full meter
00:55set assembly. A barrel lock may be utilized in the closed
00:59position or provide lockout capability.
01:02Let's take a look at the application and installation in more detail.
01:07My name is Danny Ashenbrenner 40 plus year gas operator and today,
01:11I'm going to demonstrate the Lyle A nine bypass valve.
01:16The primary purpose for the A nine bypass valve is to allow us to keep the customer running
01:20while we're working on the meter set. So currently the A nine valve is in the on
01:24position at six o'clock.
01:26If I turn it up to 12 o'clock, that would be the off position when you can install a barrel
01:31lock. The bypass position is at two o'clock and
01:34syndicate with the B on the side of the valve. Here's a quarter inch plug here where I'm gonna
01:38install my bypass at I'm gonna remove that plug. Now,
01:53I stole my fitting for the bypass.
02:01I got my portable compressed natural gas tank here that I'm gonna use to bypass this meter
02:12bypass is hooked up. Now, I'm gonna put the A nine valve in the
02:15bypass position.
02:20A nine valves at two o'clock indicated with the B for bypass.
02:24It's in the bypass position. Now I'm gonna shut the main feed off here at
02:29the service valve.
02:33So now the meter is completely isolated. The customer is still up and running and I can
02:37loosen my meter nuts and do my maintenance work on my meter set.
02:48In the event of an outage, we can purge the meter at the quarter inch bypass plug instead
02:53of loosening the meter swivel that saving us time and a potential leak.
03:00Another important feature of the Lyell A nine bypass valve is that it allows the utility
03:05company to set the meter and leave it locked off at the A nine valve pending inspection of
03:11the gas fuel line, saving the utility company a trip back to the location.
03:19When checking for a stop meter, you can remove the quarter inch bypass plug,
03:22sim light flow, verifying registration on the dials without having to use a large wrench and
03:29breaking free the meter nut potentially causing a leak at the meter set.
03:35Other great features of the A nine valve include the ability to do a pressure check at
03:39the meter set to the quarter inch bypass plug and also to do a meter spot test in the event
03:45of a possible leak inside a customer's home.
03:52The effectively designed Lyle A nine bypass valve can be utilized on a full meter set
03:57assembly or can be purchased separately.
03:59All assemblies are leak tested to 50 P SI G and are safe for operating pressures from seven
04:04inches of water column to 10 P SI G.
04:07The manufacturing follows specifications of a SME B 1633 and B 1644.
04:14The valve is available with multiple coating options but it is typically purchased with a
04:18polyester powder coat over zinc finish providing long lasting protection.
04:23We can customize the outlet length or add an insulation union if desired.
